This course typically last 9 hours (8am – 6pm) and costs $80.
NOTE: This is not an NRA-affiliated class.
TriggerAction designed this class as an opportunity to learn more about, or refresh knowledge of, handguns. The overarching goal is to introduce the safe and proper use of a handgun so that it may be used to its fullest extent. The main focus is on helping the student to develop the knowledge, skills and attitude to safely and effectively handle and operate a handgun.
Topics covered include safety, pistol types and parts, ammunition, accessories, handling, cleaning, storage and shooting fundamentals. This information is presented in a low-stress environment at a slow pace which maximizes learning with plenty of hands-on time. Class time will last roughly 2.5 hours followed by an hour of actual range time with a real handgun to demonstrate safe handling skills and shooting proficiency.
This class can be held as a ladies- or seniors-only event upon request (minimum group size of 5).
This course typically lasts 4 hours and costs $75. You are free to bring your own gun for the class and range time. If you do not have your own handgun, you can rent gun + ammo from us for the range time.
NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
This class teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. It includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.
This class is conducted in two phases. You will sign up for the class with the NRA and take Phase 1 online. This is the “book learning” section which is completed at your own pace in your home. After the exam is taken and passed you will need to contact us to complete Phase 2. Phase 2 is where your Instructor will test your knowledge and then prepare you for the live-fire portion of the class on the range. Once this phase is completed you will be provided with a certificate for passing the two phases.
We are able to supply you with a pistol if you do not have one which means you’ll need to pick a 22LR (low recoil and noise) or 9mm (louder with more recoil). If you’ll need to use one of our pistols then please let us know in the comments section when you sign up. Also, we would suggest you bring at least 50 rounds of ammo for the pistol you’ll be shooting. If you do not bring your own then we will need to charge you an additional fee to cover the ammo cost.
This class typically lasts 3 hours and costs $75.
Introduction to Air Pistols
NOTE: This is NOT an NRA-affiliated class.
TriggerAction designed this class when it became apparent that there needed to be material to bridge the gap between the NRA Eddie Eagle and Basic Pistol programs. This class is well suited for 7 -12 year olds allowing them to learn the foundation safety rules that underpin all NRA teaching as well as hands-on time with BB & pellet pistols that puts those rules into practice while teaching the knowledge and skills of practical shooting.
Students learn rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules and two handed standing positions. We then head out to put this knowledge and safety rules into practice by shooting at fun targets.
This class typically lasts 1.5 hours and costs $25.
Introduction to Handguns
NOTE: This is not an NRA-affiliated class.
TriggerAction designed this class as a follow-on to Introduction to Air Pistols. However, for someone who has an interest in seeing what shooting is all about without having to invest 4 hours for our Basic handgun class, this 1.5 hour class might be for you! Think of it as a low impact introduction to shooting with minimal investment to see if it’s right for you.
Classroom instruction will include learning the rules for safe gun handling, pistol model parts and operation, ammunition and shooting fundamentals. We’ll then head out to the range to fire a 22LR semi-auto pistol which has low noise and recoil (as far as handguns are concerned).
Once completed, you’ll have a a better idea of whether you want to pursue the shooting hobby by taking further classes.
NOTE: If a parent wishes to a have their young child (7-12 years old) take this class then they must first have taken our Introduction to Air Pistols class and passed it (or can demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with a handgun and safety).
This class will last about 1.5 hours and costs $45.
NRA Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program
The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program teaches children in pre-K through third grade four important steps to take if they find a gun. Begun in 1988, The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program has reached more than 26 million children in all 50 states. This program was developed through the combined efforts of such qualified professionals as clinical psychologists, reading specialists, teachers, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, and law enforcement personnel.
The purpose of the Eddie Eagle Program isn’t to teach whether guns are good or bad, but rather to promote the protection and safety of children. The program makes no value judgments about firearms, and no firearms are ever used in the program. Like swimming pools, electrical outlets, matchbooks and household poison, they’re treated simply as a fact of everyday life. The Eddie Eagle Program has no agenda other than accident prevention – ensuring that children stay safe should they encounter a gun.
This program typically lasts 30-45 minutes. Those wishing to have this class taught will typically provide the meeting facilities as well as sign children up so we can get an accurate count of the materials that will be needed. The cost is $10 per child.
Contact us if you would like this class presented to your group of children.
